PADI OPEN WATER DIVER

Do you enjoy being in the water and wish to explore under the seas, lakes, and rivers of our magnificent planet? Then the PADI Open Water Diver course is the first step for you. This internationally-recognised certification will allow you to scuba dive anywhere in the world down to a maximum of 18 metres / 60 feet depth. When millions of people do this course every year, it must certainly be worthwhile. At Barefoot Scuba, we ensure that it is also a lot of fun. Come, dive in Andaman Sea and take back memories that last a lifetime.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Anyone over 10 years of age who can swim and float, and is medically eligible can do this course. Take your time to go through the PADI Medical Form. If you answer ‘yes’ to any question, you must consult a registered doctor and get a written clearance for scuba diving. Scuba diving is an inclusive sport, which means anyone can dive. Most of the instructors at Barefoot Scuba are also qualified to teach people with physical or mental disabilities.

As per the regulations in the Andamans, the age limit for diving courses is 60. Those over 50 must get a medical clearance for scuba diving.

HOW IS THE COURSE STRUCTURED?

The PADI Open Water Diver course takes anywhere between 3 and 5 days to complete. We conduct it at your pace in small groups with 4:1 or lower student-instructor ratio. The course will teach you everything required to become a diver who can manage diving in your own buddy group without the supervision of an instructor.

During theory, you will study interesting things like the physics of diving, the functionalities of different scuba equipment, the physiology of your body adapting to the pressure underwater, the hand signals for communication, and more. We have a cosy classroom where you will watch videos and take quizzes. You can save time on the island if you opt for PADI eLearning and finish theory at home. Confined Water Sessions are where you will don the scuba equipment and take your first breath underwater if you haven’t dived before. You will master a variety of essential skills that a competent diver possesses.

Open Water Dives are the most exciting part! You will explore underwater environments, learn about marine life, play with buoyancy, and apply the skills you learned during the confined training. Upon the course completion, you will receive the PADI Open Water Diver certification valid for a lifetime! Kids will earn the PADI Junior Open Water Diver certification, which will be auto-upgraded when they turn 15.

WHAT NEXT?

The PADI Open Water Diver certification is only the beginning. You should keep diving whenever and wherever you can to keep your dive skills sharp. Moreover, there is a range of courses that you can take to improve, and the immediate next step would be the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course. You can also embark on side missions such as any of the PADI Speciality courses.
